In 1880, Gust Holm arrived in America and settled in Rockford, IL. During the next decade, Holm began his construction company and by century's end he had contracted over twenty projects on Seventh Street alone.
The firm continued to grow and prosper, becoming the Holm-Page Company in 1917 with the addition of partner Verner Page. Holm-Page became one of the largest local commercial contractor by volume in the 20's and was a charter member of the Associated Building Contractors (later the Northern Illinois Building Contractors Association).
John Landgren was the last president of the Holm-Page Company. He served two terms as NIBCA president in 1966 and 1973. The firm continued to be a major Rockford contractor up to his retirement in the mid-1980's, when they closed their doors.
This building at 425 East State Street was erected in 1926 for the Manufacturers National Bank. The Holm-Page Company was the general contractor for the project.
The bank closed due to the Great Depression and in 1937, the City of Rockford purchased the building, which became the new city hall.
