Located on the corner of Mulberry and N. Church Streets, the Lafayette Hotel, developed by Max Liebling and constructed by former NIBCA member, Security Building Inc., was opened on June 2, 1927. The price tag for the structure and its upscale interiors was around $500,000.
The hotel became a favorite of the "selective" traveler and was showcased in several travel guides as being the finest hotel in Rockford for several consecutive years. One of the hotel's most famous visitors was Eleanor Roosevelt.
